A shower is a controlled leak. Water gets behind the tile by design, and the membrane underneath is what carries it back to the drain. When that membrane is installed badly, or penetrated afterwards by a niche cut in the wrong order, the failure does not show for a year or two, and by then it is inside the framing.

We flood-test pans before any tile goes on. It is an unglamorous step that adds a day, and it is the difference between a bathroom that lasts twenty years and one that is opened back up in year three.

Because we hold the plumbing license (CR-37, ROC #321444) and set the tile ourselves, the person installing the membrane answers to the same license as the person who set the drain it ties into.

Every competitor says it depends. Here is what it actually depends on. A guest bath refresh in the existing footprint is the low end. Moving supply and waste lines to change the layout is the first real step up, because it means opening the floor and, in a single-storey slab home, cutting concrete.

The second is glass. A frameless enclosure is templated after tile, has a multi-week lead time, and costs a multiple of a framed door. The third is stone: a large-format slab wall or a book-matched surround changes both the material cost and the labour to set it.
